Event will kickstart your new healthy life

ADVICE to keep Barrow folk in fine fettle will be on offer at the Love Your Life, Live Your Life health fair tomorrow.

FEELING GREAT: Weight losers Dale Cassidy, left, and Stuart Roberts show their support for the Evening Mail’s Love Your Life, Live Your Life campaign at The Forum in Barrow

The Evening Mail is working with Barrow Borough Council, Barrow Borough Sports Council, Park Leisure Centre and NHS Cumbria to host the free event between 10am and 2pm.

Barrow Mayor Councillor John Murphy will officially open the fair.

For the past 18 months he has given up his 20-a-day smoking habit.

When time allows, he also organises countryside walks and makes regular trips to the gym.

He said: “I am a massive supporter of everything we can do to improve the health of people in Barrow.

“People should come along to look into such issues as mental health issues, giving up smoking, advice on alcohol, there will be so many people there giving advice on the day.”

Cllr Murphy will run a tombola stall to raise money for his campaign to place emergency defibrillators around the town.

Staff from the North West Ambulance Service will accompany him in demonstrating how to use the units.

Workmates Stuart Roberts and Dale Cassidy, who have pledged to lose weight and get fitter in 2012, encouraged people to go along to the fair.

Three weeks ago the workmates at Stuart Roberts Plumbing Ltd handed themselves over to the experts at the Park Leisure Centre for a public overhaul.

Over the next three months the Evening Mail will report on their progress as they try to lose two stone each. So far, Mr Roberts has lost a staggering 18lbs and Mr Cassidy 11lbs.

He said: “It’s definitely opened my eyes to healthy eating and the exercise has really helped and given me more energy.”

Representatives of Park Leisure Centre will pass on fitness and dietary advice.

Everyone who attends gets a free swim voucher and a free Club Max voucher for every child, plus a goody bag.
