Once you are diagnosed with heart disease, you have it for the rest of your life. Maintaining good cardiovascular health is key for prevention and survival. Learn how to enjoy a heart-healthy life from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 29, when Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital presents “Matters of the Heart 2012,” its annual heart-health-awareness month event.
Daphne Oz, co-host of ABC’s “The Chew,” a Princeton University graduate and author of a national bestseller, “The Dorm Room Diet,” is the featured speaker. Her work has centered around finding practical, delicious and easy solutions to achieve lifelong health. She is a regular contributor to Oprah.com and The Huffington Post and writes a syndicated newspaper column, “Food for Thought.”
RWJ clinical dietician Simone Gampel, who provides dietetic counseling to home-care and dialysis patients, inpatients and a wide range of hospital units, will discuss healthy eating. Dr. Liliana Cohen, assistant professor of medicine for the Division of Cardiology at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and RWJ, will present “Understanding Heart Disease: Signs & Symptoms, Family History and the Importance of Early Detection,” and East Brunswick-based cardiologist Dr. Anthony Altobelli, who specializes in cardiovascular diseases and hypertension, will present “Healthy Living: Steps to Reduce Your Risks for Heart Disease.”
Staff members of the Robert Wood Johnson Fitness and Wellness Center team will present a “Healthy Moving” demonstration.
