MASON CITY,IA-Are you one of the many who made a new year’s resolution to lead a healthier lifestyle?
It seems to be a goal for those looking to live better and live longer.
We’re getting a perspective from those who not only are living longer, but those who are also finding the strength to make healthier choices.
What works for some, doesn’t always work for others.
For instance Helen Blunt is celebrating her 105th birthday today and others are just hoping they’re on the right track.
It’s a big day for Helen Blunt.
Blunt says, “This is my 105 birthday.”
Even at that age, Blunt is still able to get around and enjoy life.
She says sometimes it’s difficult, but she keeps trekking on.
Blunt says, “Oh I’m still enjoying life somewhat you know. I have audio books and I have music.”
If you think there’s some sort of secret to more than a century of living, Blunt says there really isn’t one.
Blunt says, “it’s puzzling its just why I don’t know.”
Blunt leads a fairly healthy lifestyle, but claims nothing out of the ordinary to make it to 105.
Blunt says, “I do nothing except I take four pills, four kinds of medicines.”
Others in the area can find inspiration in Blunt’s life.
But trying to figure out exactly what that takes, is a bit more difficult.
Weight loss show winner Rebecca Meyer says, “We’re helping kickoff this challenge and then in 90 days well be here helping the Cerro Gordo County wellness initiative.”
That challenge is to get fit.
Kaplan University and the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health are hoping stars from a popular weight loss show will help motivate folks.
Those involved are hoping to make this a life-changing decision today for those who really want it.
For those who just happen to already have that?
It’s pretty overwhelming.
Blunt says, “I’m just really touched at all the well wishes I’ve received. It just quite males you teary eyed.”
Meyer was joined at Kaplan by another weight loss show winner.
They are both from Des Moines and will be back in town in April to help kick off a wellness initiative program.
