Dogs And Happiness - Some Good Facts To Remember About Dog Training

People get dogs for various reasons. Some want just a companion to go for walks with, others want their kids to grow up with a dog whilst others are hoping to make their own childhood wishes come true. Showing a dog, training him to be a hunting companion or taking part in obedience or agility competitions are more ambitious motivations for dog keeping. Whatever it is you want to do with your dog you need to be clear on your goals before you can make them real.

The dog at your side is always willing to go along with you but you can not expect him to be what you are not.

Say that again?

My dog can not be what I am not? Sounds somewhat strange, don't you think?

Let me explain.

Your dog's passion to do something for you reflects your own mood and attitude towards that activity. Nearly always - unless of course it is going for walks or chasing after a tennis ball in the park. Have you ever tried to teach your dog something when you yourself were in a bad mood? Have you ever managed to do some good heel work when you felt that you would rather be doing something else? When a dog fails to perform it is nearly always due to his owner or trainer.

● Has the person training the dog been really passionate about it?
● Has he set realistic goals and given the dog enough time to develop the skills needed to realize those goals?
● Were the methods he used the right ones for his canine or did he apply a one - for - all type recipe?
● Did he reflect his own actions rather than blaming the dog when things didn't work out as they should?

Time and time again I have seen people who were trying to make their dog do something without being really interested in it and I have also seen those who are over enthusiastic about some work the dog should do without realizing that the dog was not ready for the task.

Taking the time to reflect, finding the cause for the difficulty and going back to square one is your best bet if your dog doesn't seem to be able to manage a task you set him.

Every dog needs to adjust his behavior to the needs of his human companions because this is a human society and our dogs depend on us. We are the ones with the bigger brains so we decide what happens. It is our responsibility to meet our canine friends and guide them through the process of adapting to the rules of our societies.

When we are happy to take on the responsibility of educating our dogs we will make them happy and our dog dreams will come true. Dogs are eager to learn how to please us - because dogs do love happy faces around them.

As a loving and dedicated dog owner you aspire to do what ever you can to make your four legged friend happy. Protecting him from harm, providing the best possible nourishment and life style as well as educating him well are important for his overall well being. But most important of all is the relationship you offer him or her.
