External Hard Drives - Reasons why you should have one

Have you or someone you know ever experienced this?

You need to complete your term paper. There's only one day left. You power up your computer and hear a grinding noise coming from your hard drive.

There are another nine good reasons for having a back up disk drive.

#9 – Compile a music file.

Most likely you turn on your radio or music service to listen to music. How often do you have to sit through your least favorite song just to hear something you like? The solution is to store your music on your hard drive to play back on your favorite media player. That way you decide what you will listen to at any given moment, not the radio station.

#8 – Movies/Videos.

We all love making movies. The question is where to store it all. Will you take up your internal drive space? Drives with 4 terabytes or even greater are now within our reach.

How much can a 4TB drive actually hold? The answer is over 300 hours.

Stupendous.

#7 – Photographs.

Billions of photos have been snapped since the camera was first invented. Where are most of those photos stored? Usually they are left in the original package, boxed and stored out of sight and out of view. Want to go back to that Hawaiian vacation? Nothing to it. Search, select and play.

#6 – Increased disk capacity.

When desk top computers were first becoming popular a drive of even 1 GB was considered to be larger than we would ever need. Sure, you can select a 4 or 5TB internal drive, or more, but that drive gets filled quicker than you think. By keeping data files on your external drive your internal drive will remain free to perform it's required task and increase your computer's speed. Your external drive will relieve the duties of data storage so your internal drive can efficiently maintain memory and run applications.

#5 – Transportability.

You might be a person who takes your lap top with if you travel for work. When you get home your work has just begun. You might first load your files onto your PC at home, make copies on disk and take them to work to load into your office PC. How many hours are you willing to spend on this simple yet very time consuming task? Simply plug the drive into whatever computer is available at the moment and you're good to go.

#4 – Getting ready for the party.

You have been selected to supply the music to a party you have been invited to. What's the plan? Hire a band?

Why not have the music on your external drive to play at the party? Your name will be known as the music master in all the inner circles.

#3 – Swapping files from Mac to PC.

Let's say for instance that you own a Mac and a PC. Swapping large files has probably required wasting a CD or DVD just to move your files once. Having an external hard drive which is compatible with both the Mac and PC would be a perfect solution. It is becoming much easier to find a manufacture who will cater to your particular needs.

#2 – Security from internet hackers.

We may not know it but a lot of personal information winds up stored on our computer. When you are connected to the internet all of this information is potentially available for some hacker to break in and steal. Always keep your personal information separated from internet access. The solution is simply store this type of information only on your external drive and disconnect the drive while surfing.

#1 – It's a showpiece.

Face it. Your computer may give you some grief but overall you love your set up. Our computers always seem to be there when we need them for work, for play and just having fun. An external drive is the next logical step in computer evolution. Why not add one and make your computer the most versatile piece of equipment in your home?
